Kala-Koreish is an ancient fortress settlement in the mountains of Dagestan. It was the capital of the Kaitag Utsmiate and a major center for the spread of Islam in the North Caucasus. Now abandoned, it preserves a unique medieval mosque, a mausoleum of the rulers, and a labyrinth of stone ruins.
